What is Data Validation?
Data validation lets you set rules on text fields in your documents, to help you collect more accurate information from signers.
Data validation is available on Essentials, Standard, and Premium plans.
For example, if you need to collect a Social Security number, your signer will have to enter nine digits. If they enter more or less than nine digits, they'll receive an error message.
Notes:
- Data validation only validates the format of text entered and doesn't verify the actual data. For example, data validation can verify that a signer entered nine digits, but can’t verify that it is a valid Social Security number.
- Data validation is currently based on US norms only.
How to set data validation
Create a signature request or template as you normally would.
Create a text field for your signer.
Click the dropdown menu under Validation Type.
In the example above, your signer will be required to enter all five (or nine) digits of their zip code when they complete the field. If they don’t, they’ll receive a notification letting them know they need to enter the correct number of digits.
