The HelloSign for Word add-in allows a user to open any Word file (40MB or under) and use the file as the basis for signing or requesting signatures. This article will cover the following areas:
- Installing HelloSign for Word
- Creating & Connecting to HelloSign from Word
- Overview of HelloSign for Word functionality
- Considerations when using HelloSign for Word
Installing
To install HelloSign to Word complete the following steps:
- Log into your 365 account and select the Word option.
- Open a Word file.
- Navigate to the Insert tab on the ribbon, and then select the Office Add-ins option from the Add-ins section of the ribbon.
- An Office Add-ins page opens. Select the Store option.
- Type HelloSign in the search field, and click the search icon.
- Once you find the HelloSign for Word add-in, click the Add button to the right of the listing.
- When the add-in is installed, HelloSign will appear as a tab on the ribbon. Clicking the tab will display three options:
- Self-Sign - For documents you need to sign and fill out
- Send for Signature - Documents in which you are requesting others to sign
- My Account - Access to your HelloSign account, Help Center, and to log out

Create a HelloSign Account
If you already have a HelloSign account skip this section and go to the following section to learn how to connect. To create a HelloSign account complete the following steps:
- Navigate to the HelloSign tab on the ribbon and then select My Account
- A HelloSign login page will appear in the right task panel
- Click Sign Up (note: if using Office 365 a prompt authorization panel will display when attempting to open a new window. When this happens, click Allow.)
- A HelloSign sign up page will open in your browser
- Enter the email you want connected to your account and select a HelloSign plan.
- Verify your new account via email and create a password
- Your HelloSign account is created and you can follow the steps to connect in the next section
Connect HelloSign to Word
To connect HelloSign to Word complete the following steps:
- Navigate to the HelloSign tab on the ribbon and then select My Account
- Click Log In and click Accept open new window notification
- Enter your HelloSign username and password
- Your HelloSign account will be connected to your Word account
Using HelloSign for Word
Our HelloSign for Word integration supports signing and requesting signatures as well as access to your HelloSign account information.
Self-Sign - For documents you need to sign and fill out
Clicking the Self-Sign option will begin the process of uploading your document to HelloSign for signing. Once uploaded you will see a window popup with your document in the HelloSign signing editor.
To sign the document follow these steps:
- From the left panel drag and drop the Signature field onto the document, you can adjust the location and size of your signature field as necessary.
- You will be prompted to enter your signature
- You may also add additional fields onto your document such as Initials, Date Signed, Textbox, and Checkbox
- Once all your fields are on the document click Save on the top right
- Document is now legally signed and in the right task panel in Word you will receive a confirmation message with the option to view and download your signed document
Send for Signature - Documents in which you are requesting others to sign
Clicking the Send for Signature option will begin the process of uploading your document to HelloSign for signing. Once uploaded you will see a window popup with HelloSign's add signers page.
To request signatures on the document follow these steps:
- Enter the name and email for all those that need to sign the document

- Click the Next button on the top right to be taken to the Editor
- From the left panel select from the list of fields such as Initials, Date Signed, Textbox, Checkbox and Signature, and click where you'd like to place the field on the document.
- You can adjust the location and size of your signature field as necessary
- You can assign fields to different signers using the Assigned To option in the left panel

- Once all your fields are assigned click the Next button to be taken to the final Review and send step
- On the Review and Send step you can add individuals to be CC'd on the request as well as give the request a Title (subject of the email) and Message

- When everything looks right click the Send for signature button to complete the request
- Your document has now been sent and in the right task panel in Word you will receive a confirmation message with the option to view the status of your request in HelloSign
My Account - Access to your HelloSign account, Help Center, and to log out
Clicking the My Account option provides access to the following:
- Link to your HelloSign account information
- Link to view the status of your documents
- Link to HelloSign's help center
- The ability to Log out and disconnect your HelloSign account from Word
Additional Information
- HelloSign for Word does not currently support Google or Dropbox SSO. If your HelloSign account is using either SSO option you will need to go through the HelloSign reset password flow to access HelloSign in Word.
- HelloSign for Word features include signing a document, requesting signatures from multiple signers, and including cc’d recipients. Additional HelloSign features are not currently supported. To request additional functionality please contact support team here.
- HelloSign for Word is not currently supported on Internet Explorer 11. This may also impact those on older versions of Word desktop. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/dev/add-ins/concepts/browsers-used-by-office-web-add-ins
- HelloSign for Word is not currently supported on Safari.
Please Note: Connection will maintain for seven days at which point you will be required to log in again.
